The essence of Indian culture is its various festivals and their celebration with pomp and enjoyment. when an Indian is abroad, at the time of such festivals, away from family and Home, it feels like in exile. But its wonderfully different here in Manila, where the Hindu Temple Committee takes efforts and makes sure that all the festivals are celebrated traditionally and we do not miss home badly at such occasions.
Philippines has a large Indian population and most of them being Sindhis and Punjabis. Most Indians congregate for socio-cultural and religious activities at the Hindu Temple (Mahatma Gandhi Street, Paco, Manila), the Indian Sikh Temple (United Nations Avenue, Paco, Manila). The celebration of recent Cheti Chand and the beginning of Navratri was wonderful. The Navratri prayers continue until Ashtami with the grand Havan and termination of Navratri fasting leaving the devotees happy and satisfied.
Indian parents should encourage their kids to accompany them to religious places like this on such occasions to be familiar with the traditions and rich culture of our country.
